An unspoilt Andalusian paradise

Hotel Miba is the ideal spot from which to explore the unspoilt village of Salobreña steeped in Moorish history and full of Andalusian charm. It's a very different place to your typical Spanish coastal destintation - quiet and uncrowded, less developed and authentic, picturesque and stunningly beautiful with its varied landscape of Mediterranean beaches, snowy sierras, rugged mountains and green fields of sub-tropical produce. Our strateigc location by the main coastal road with easy access to motroways to Granada, Málaga and Almería makes a great base for exploring the Costa Tropical and for easy excursions to the Alpujarras, Lecrín Valley and Granada.  

The village itself is spread out over a large and varied expanse of land. Every visitor should take time to explore the stunningly beautiful old town with its iconic Moorish castle that dates back to the 10th century, the timeless whitewashed houses, the picturesque Paseo de las Flores, an intriguing church that used to be a mosque and the UNESCO world heritage labyrinth of windy streets in the Albayzín. Exploring this area expect the unexpected as you discover fabulous old buildings, flowerpots lining the streets, neighbours sitting on their porches, unexpected viewpoints and traditional Andalusian culture lived at a decidedly relaxed pace. Below the castle lies the modern part of the village which is the focal point for daily life with a small market providing local fish and agritcultural produce, shops, banks and a number of vibrant bars serving the customary free tapas.

The rock in the middle of Salobreña beach, El Peñon, separates the quieter areas of La Guardia from the main beachfront. Here you will find plenty of animation in summer with lively beach restaurants serving the local specialities of grilled ocopus and sardines on skewers, bars, shops, pedalo and sunlounger hire. This area is highly popular with day-trippers from inland and a lot of families from the region have second homes here. On summer nights there are street markets and this is the scenic backdrop for the annual village fiesta in October when decorative floats and carriages go down the main promenade while the bars are full of people in traditional attire. Beyond the main beachfront is the stunning natural area of the Guadalfeo river mouth. There is an exquisite walking/cycling track along the river wetlands affording sublime views of Sierra Nevada in one direction and the sea in the other. The contrasting views are truly unique. On the other side of the river is the gorgeous, unspoilt beach of La Desembocadura del Guadalfeo which has nothing more than a small surf club and a beautiful stretch of beach where you can enjoy swimming in the sea whilst gazing at snowy peaks in the distance.

For those who like walking, the area above Monte de Los Almendros up to the viewpoint of Loma Miranda offers some exquisite views of the coast and the mountains. Inland of the village the main agricultural area from the cemetery to Lobres is a sea of green avocado and mango trees with some lovely hidden spots. As sugar cane was for centuries a staple local crop, the modern rum factory of Ron Montero is also located in Lobres and offers some wonderful guided visits and rum tastings.
